The Speaker of the United States House of Representatives Paul Ryan, and Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi are hosting a bipartisan lunch for Tibet's spiritual leader, the Dalai Lama on Tuesday during his Washington visit.

According to Politico, an American political-journalism organization based in Virginia, approximately 30 members are expected to attend the lunch including Actor Richard Gere, who has been a long standing advocate of the Tibetan cause and an old friend of the Dalai Lama.

The Dalai Lama, who arrived in Washington DC around 3pm Sunday was welcomed warmly by the local Tibetans and supporters with dances and ceremonial scarfs.

The Dalai Lama joined the United States Institute of Peace USIP in the morning of June 13 to discuss his meeting with youth leaders from 13 countries to engage in social justice and cultural understanding, and gave a talk on “A Peaceful Mind in a Modern World” at American University's Bender Arena in northwest Washington in the afternoon.
