A Sitting Gold Statue Of Mao Not Standing Anymore

The 120 foot tall gold colored statue of Chairman Mao Zedong, the early leader of the Chinese communist party who became increasingly controversial with his failed policies and endless social engineering which had dominated a rural landscape for a while was demolished.

Chinese state media said that the decision to demolish the Mao statues was based on lack of approval from the authorities, however many on China’s social media suggest that public criticism of the statue on the internet may have been the real reason. Many netizens had noted the irony of such a towering golden statue in the middle of nowhere and located in a province where millions died through the famines of the 1950s and 60s brought about by Mao's disastrous "Great Leap Forward" economic and social reforms.
