Tibet House, the Cultural Center of the Dalai Lama in New Delhi, India organized a talk on, “Biography of His Holiness the Dalai Lama & Living History of Tibet” at the Tibetan Youth Hostel on the evening of April 18, 2015.

Professor Ngawang Thondup Narkyid, Official Biographer of Dalai Lama, who was the main speaker at the event has written and published 10 volumes in Tibetan from 1984 to 2004.

Speaking on the life and works of Tibet's spiritual leader, Professor Narkyid said that he was surprised to see the inherent compassionate nature and inclination to truth and justice of the Dalai Lama even at young age. “At very young age, he used to buy and set free thousands of sheep taken to slaughter houses in the Lhasa city. And also on seeing the injustice done to a helpless peasant in the court of regent Tadak, he took firm determination to improve the judicial system of Tibet,” says Prof. Narkyid while speaking to more than 100 Delhi University Tibetan students.

Born in 1931 in Tsethang, Professor Narkyid was the mayor of Lhasa city before escaping to India in 1959. He was also a member of the Drafting Committee of Constitution of PRC in 1954. For his erudition and efforts, the Western Michigan University (WMU), Michigan, USA conferred an Honorary Doctorate degree in the year 2009.
