Police Arrest Lone Monk Protester in Ngaba

A young Tibetan monk of Kirti monastery staged a solo protest in Ngaba County, Ngawa Tibetan and Qiang Autonomous Prefecture, around 1.30pm local time on March 8, 2015.

According to a VOA Tibetan source from Dharamsala, Genduk Phuntsok, 18 shouted slogans calling for the return of the Dalai Lama to Tibet and demanded equality and freedom for Tibetans on the main street of Ngaba town while carrying a portrait of Tibet's spiritual leader.

Sources say within minutes of the protest, policemen arrived at the scene and took him away.

The current whereabouts of the monk remain unknown.
