China Has Divided Tibetans into 56 Ethnic Groups, Says Acharya Lobsang


Current leaders inside Tibet: Talk to CTA Staff

Tibetan Policy Institute (TPI) based in Dharamsala, northern India organized a talk by Phagpa Tsering, Secretary of Department of Security, and Acharya Lobsang, Advisor of TPI, on "Current leaders inside TIbet," a book TPI launched in April of this year.

Mr. Phagpa Tsering highlighted the number of Tibetans and Han nationals holding positions of powerful seats in Tibetan areas, with the details of their backgrounds.

Acharya Lobsang showed statistics and shared information on how China has divided the Tibetan regions under separate autonomous regions, prefectures, and districts by categorizing some Tibetan regions into Chinese areas, and also how China has divided Tibetans into 56 different ethnic groups.

The staff of Central Tibetan Administration spoke to the press about their perspectives after the talk, and said that it is important for a Tibetan civil servant to understand the leaders and policies inside Tibet.
