New Tibetan refugees in Canada
Interview with newly- arrived Tibetan refugees from Northeast India, Sonam Chonzom and Tenzin Tharpa on their initial experience of landing on Canadian soil as Tibetan refugees, and how life is treating them now, and what plans, hopes and expectation they have in life. Chonzom said she is from Bomdila Tibetan settlement, and that she did not have much schooling; She hopes to get an entry level job. She wants future refugees to study English before coming to Canada. Tharpa said he was about to re- enroll for an undergrad class when he won the lottery to be included in the list of Tibetan refugees bound for Canada. He said that for now, he wants to first find a job and eventually continue studying for a career. Both the new Tibetan refugees, along 16 others are, for the moment, living in the homes of their sponsors and receiving orientation for a new phase of their lives in the West.
