Namgyal Dolkar Lhagyari’s Journey from Statelessness to Citizenship
After a long legal battle, Namgyal Dolkar Lhagyari was granted Indian citizenship by a Delhi High Court in 2010 according to India’s Citizenship Act of 1986. Since then a growing number of people have started a debate on the pros and cons of exiled Tibetans applying for citizenship of the host countries. Lobsang Sangay, head of the Tibetan administration in exile, has spoken about this particular issue more than once. This week's Table Talk invites Namgyal Dolkar and discusses her reasons and rationals, difficulties, and challenges in applying Indian citizenship and how the changed status has affected her.
