Xinhua reported five cases of foot and mouth disease outbreak in different parts of Tibet since April of 2013. The latest report on Tuesday shows the disease spread in cattles in Chamdo prefecture, TAR. In Shigatse prefecture, an outbreak of the disease for the second time this year brought confusion and conflict after Chinese officials reportedly started shooting the animals without warning the shepherds. One elder shepherdess was reported to have died from heart attack as her animals were shot and buried alive while she was grazing them on a mountain. In this program, a Tibetan doctor explains how the infected animals would traditionally be handled in Tibet and what people need to know about the disease.
