After two long decades of house arrest, Myanmar’s opposition leader Aung San Kyi formally gave her long delayed Nobel Peace Prize acceptance speech in Oslo last Saturday. She said “What the Nobel Peace Prize did was to draw me once again into the world of other human beings, outside the isolated area in which I lived, to restore a sense of reality to me.” Table Talk discusses her speech and what it means for democracy and human rights in Burma and other authoritarian regimes like China.
