The Tibetan Medical and Astrological Institute based in Dharamsala, India organized an awareness talk on Hepatitis B using Tibetan and Western Medicine to mark the 7th World Hepatitis Day.
Rigzin Sangmo, head of the Research Department shared the background information on World's Hepatitis Day, and the importance of marking the day in the Tibetan Society.
Shosur Sonam Choephel, Secretary of Health Department, and the chief guest of the event stressed on the significance of spreading awareness about Hepatitis in Tibetan society, by citing studies that have revealed many Tibetan people with the Hepatitis B virus.
Dr. Tsewang Tamdin shared Tibetan medicine's perspective towards Hep B and adviced few remedies to reduce the DNA viral Count. Dr. Tenzin Tsundue of Delek Hospital performed a powerpoint presentation on the disease, and urged the Tibetan doctors to send their patients for lab test so that Tibetan and Western medicine can work collaboratively to combat this.
Tibet Charity has set up a free Hep B blood test booth, where walk ins were encouraged and assisted with diagnosis of the Hep B Virus.
