Manuel Bauer 2014.

The Dalai Lama visited the Central Institute of Buddhist Studies in Leh Ladakh and stressed on the proper study of Nalanda tradition of Buddhism which is based on reason and logic.

"Prof. Joshi of Patiala university once told me that the three causes for decline of Buddhism in India were, inclination of monks for wealth; without having proper understanding of basic Buddhist studies entering into practice of Tantraya; and withdrawal of support by rulers of that time. We Tibetans have these three causes," says the Dalai Lama pointing to the decline of studies in the Tibetan monastic institutions in India.

The Dalai Lama also said that the lack of proper study and practice of Tantraya by monks may lose respect and faith for Buddhism.
