Music and Poetry Evening to Celebrate 79th Birthday of Dalai Lama

Hundreds of Tibetans gathered at the Mentsekhang hall of Tibetan Medicine and Astrological Institute (TMAI), Dharamsala, north India to celebrate the 79th birthday of the Dalai Lama with music and poetry reading.

Passang Wangdu, Vice Principal of TMAI College, said that the program which features poetry and songs in praise of the Dalai Lama is meant to take part in CTA's '2014 year of Dalai Lama.' 25 students and a staff member contributed in the poetry contest, but only 12 selected piece were featured in the evening's program.

Gyaltsen, an Astrological student who won first in his category said that his poem aims to express the joy and gratitude for having the Dalai Lama in Tibetan people's life.

The students sang and danced to songs from Tibet to celebrate the auspicious day.
