The Vice president of India’s Bharatya Janta Party and Member of Parliament, Bhagat Singh Koshiyari, inaugurated an indefinite hunger strike launched by Tibetan Youth Congress in New Delhi on Monday. "China has occupied entire geographical area of Tibet and is destroying the religion and culture of Tibet, but the struggle for just cause of Tibetans will remain till the water of Indus and Brahmaputra Rivers remain," stated Koshiyari as he expressed support for Tibet on behalf of the Indian public and his own political Party.
The TYC has a history of carrying out hunger strikes to protest Chinese rule in Tibet, and during the inauguration of Monday’s action, the President of the Tibetan youth organization said,
"In view of the promises made by both the European Union and the United Nations during previous hunger strikes, Tibetan Youth Congress has resolved to resume its hunger strike in New Delhi."
The three participants in the hunger strike are all Central Executive members of the Tibetan Youth Congress: Dhondup Lhadar, Penpa Tsering, and Jigme Sholpa,.
