Home Minister Dolma Gyari of the Central Tibetan Administration based in Dharamsala, India met the third group of 9 Tibetans leaving for Canada under the Tibetan resettlement project at the Bureau Office of the Dalai Lama in New Delhi, India on January 17, 2014.

At the farewell meeting, Dolma Gyari urged them to make themselves a good representative of Tibetans to fulfill the wishes of the Dalai Lama. "Going there under the project of Tibetan administration, one should keep in mind to represent the Tibetans in foreign land and also one must make contributions in the country where one lives," said Dolma Gyari.

While speaking on the ways to resolve the Tibetan issue, she said that one is free to have different views but that should not harm the unity of the Tibetan people at this crucial time of Tibetan struggle.

The Tibetan Resettlement Project was initiated after an appeal by the Dalai Lama during his meeting with the then Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper in 2007. The project aims to immigrate 1000 Tibetans from the Tibetan settlements of Miao, Tezu and Tuting, Tenzin Gang, and Bomdila and Tawang.

The additional secretary of the Department of Home, Dhondhup Dorjee said that under the project of resettlement of 1000 Tibetans in Canada, 890 Tibetans are confirmed to have selected for resettlement in Canada and out of which 204 have already cleared their interviews and medical check-ups.

The first group left for Canada on November 29, 2013 followed by the second group on December 14, 2013. The third batch of 9 Tibetans [7 from teju and 2 from Tuting] will leave for Toronto on January 18, 2014.

The fourth batch will leave by January 25, 2014 followed by fifth batch in March 2014. The entire resettlement project is expected to be completed by May 11, 2016.
