Dharamsala’s Tibet Museum Participates in International Museum Day

For the first time since its founding, Tibet Museum will be joining with more than 35,000 museums in 120 countries to mark International Museum Day, to increase public awareness of the role of museums in the development of society.

Tibet Museum will take the opportunity of the International Platform to showcase the historical and cultural record of Tibet Museum, said Tashi Phuntsok, head of Tibet Museum.

The one day program will include guided tours of the museum, demonstrations of Thangka painting, displays of traditional costumes, and the screening of documentary films on Tibet.

Pema Chhinjor, Minister of the Department of Religion and Culture inaugurated the museum’s new website which features many of the exhibitions that can be downloaded and used to create mini exhibitions by anyone. Chhinjor applauded the new website and expressed hope that it will serve its aim in helping to spread awareness of Tibetan culture and the issue of Tibet today.
