Dharamsala Holds Day of Action for Release of Tulku Tenzin Delek

The Students for a Free Tibet chapter based in Dharamsala, India and students of Tulku Tenzin Delek organized a day long event demanding the immediate release of Rinpoche on April 7 2014.

Tulku Tenzin Delek Rinpoche, a well known Tibetan Buddhist leader born in Lithang, eastern Tibet, was arrested by the Chinese authorities in April 2002 on allegedly being involved in a series of bombing incidence in his region. He was sentenced to death along with his assistant Lobsang Dhondup, and in January of 2003, Dhondup was executed. Due to the appeals and protests conducted by various international human rights groups, Delek Rinpoche's death sentence was commuted to life in imprisonment in January 2005.

Prior to his arrest, Rinpoche was known for being an advocate for environmental conservation inside Tibet, while working to develop the social, medical, and educational institutions for Tibetan Nomads in Eastern Tibet.

Today's event in Dharamsala, India was participated by former political prisoners to show solidarity with Tulku Tenzin Delek's current situation, and urged the world to press China for his immediate release.

Geshe Nyima, a student of Tulku, briefed the gathering about the current critical condition of Tenzin Delek Rinpoche.

Kalsang Gyaltsen, an MP shared his view on the innocence of Tulku Tenzin Delek and urged China to act release Tulku on Medical Parole.

Delek Yangchen, a nun from Dolma Ling said, she and fellow mates are sitting for a day long hunger strike to urge everyone to press China for the immediate release of Tulku.

This year marks 12 years of imprisonment for Tulku Tenzin Delek Rinpoche.
