Following a series of solo protests that occurred in Ngapa County and some other Tibetan areas in recent months, two unidentified young men staged a protest in Ngapa County at noon on September 10, according to Kirti Monastery in India.

The report said that a large number of people, including a 64-year-old woman who works as a street cleaner, joined the protest and demonstrated in the street before the police arrived and arrested a number of people including the street cleaner, who is identified as Goomo from Rongkarsar Township, Ngapa County, Sichuan Province.

Further information on the exact number of arrests and the names of other arrestees are unavailable.

Ngapa County is where the first self-immolation in Tibet occurred in 2009 and since then, it has been one of the centers of Tibetan protests against China’s rule. Most protesters have called for freedom for Tibetans and return of the Dalai Lama to Tibet.
