TWA Convenes 11th General Body Meeting


ཐད་ཀར་ཕབ་ལེན་གྱི་དྲ་འབྲེལ།

The Tibetan Women’s Association (TWA) and its executive members gathered at the Institute of Tibetan Higher Studies, Sarah, near Dharamsala for a six day meeting.

The opening function of the 11th General Body Meeting (GBM), was presided over by Lobsang Sangay, head of the Tibetan Administration in Exile. Mrs. Rinchen Khando, founding President of Tibetan Women’s Association; Mr. Penpa Tsering, Speaker of Tibetan Parliament in Exile, and former Kalons of the administration guided the participants on their future actions.

At the function, Tibetan Women’s Association honored the executive and founding members of TWA in Exile, which was reestablished in India on September 10, 1984.

Ms. Rinchen Khando, founding President of Tibetan Women’s Association was honored for taking the responsibility for the Tibetan Nun's Project since 1987, an initiative that started under the TWA. Ten members of the organization who has served over 12 years in different capacity were also awarded a recognition for their sacrifices and dedication.

TWA launched three publications in Tibetan; “History of Tibetan Women Leaders”, “Tibetans Intermarriages inside Tibet and Exile” and “History of Regional Tibetan Women’s Association”.

The Tibetan Women's Association based in Dharamsala will elect its next executive members on the last day of the general body meeting.
