TCV Dedicates 54th Anniversary to Dalai Lama

The Tibetan Children’s Village school in Dharamsala, north India celebrated its 54th founding anniversary by paying tribute to the Dalai Lama with their theme, “Forever Gratitude” on October 23, 2014.

The function was presided over by the guest of honor, 17th Karmapa Ogyen Trinley Dorji and Penpa Tsering, Speaker of the Tibetan Parliament in Exile, along with other dignitaries from exile Tibetan administration and institutions in and around Dharamsala.

While addressing the occasion, Penpa Tsering said, “Many Tibetan students here in TCV have escaped Tibet risking their lives for a better education. It is vital to utilize this opportunity efficiently, and make a positive contribution towards the Tibetan society ultimately."

Mr. Tsewang Yeshi, Director of TCV shared the history and development of TCV from its humble beginnings in 1960 to its present status. "The school has supported more than 14000 students in the past 54 years and still has many programs to groom the youngster into becoming better citizen of Tibet," Yeshi further added.

TCV has come a long way from its establishment in 1960 with 51 students to the current status of 35 schools and vocational training centers, hostels and college.
