Jihad Means to Combat Inner Destructive Emotions: Dalai Lama

"I learned from my Muslim brothers and sisters that 'Jihad' means to combat inner destructive emotions after reconfirming it with Islamic scholars in New York," says the Dalai Lama while speaking at the inauguration of the "Meeting of Diverse Spiritual Traditions in India" being held at New Delhi on September 20, 2014.

The Dalai Lama also urged the Indian Muslims to help resolve the Shia Sunni issue prevalent in other parts of the world such as Pakistan.

The meeting of Indian religious leaders in Delhi organized by the Dalai Lama to promote inter-religious harmony was participated by 103 delegates from 23 Indian states.

Prominent attendees at the meeting were Swami Avimukteswaranand Saraswati from Shankaracharya Jyotish Peeth, Rabbi Izekiel Isaac Malekar, Mufti Mohammad Sannaul Hoda Qasmi, H.E. Oswald Cardinal Gracias, Parsi Dadi Mistri and others. Geden Tripa Ridzong Rinpoche, Karmapa Rinpoche, Menri Trichen Rinpoche, Drigung Chetsang Rinpoche, Druk Thuksey Rinpoche and other Tibetan Buddhist leaders.
