Domey Chitue Announces Final Results
The Election commission announced Tashi Dhondup of Golok Serta as the winner of the by-election for Domey Parliamentary seat, at a press conference held at the Lhakpa Tsering hall, DIIR, Dharamsala, north India on June 24, 2014.

The Election commission earlier brought out four candidate from the preliminary result, out of which one (Lukar Jam) resigned.

Domey Tibetans voted on the 2nd of June for the other three candidates which resulted as Tashi Dhondup, who got the highest number of 586 votes (57.17%), followed by Tsangyang Gyatso with 317 votes (30.93%) and Karma Gelek with 113 votes (11.02%).

At the press conference, Mr. Jamphel Choesang, the Election Commissioner highlighted the low percentage of participants in the election despite their efforts in providing special opportunities to register. He further added that 'Young Tibetans should take a more active role in elections to make the best use of the democratic rights, and that out of 3,986 registered voters, 1,025 cast their ballots with a voter turnout of merely 25.72%.

The election cost has come up to Rs. 8,02,428, and has taken 153 days since the appointment of its additional Election Commissioners.
