Dharamsala Urges International Bodies to Investigate Self-Immolations


Dharamsala-based Central Tibetan Administration today urged international agencies and national governments to look into the cause of the increasing Tibetan self-immolations.

Spokesperson of CTA said the exile administration is saddened by the self-immolations in Tibet and have urged Tibetans in Tibet to refrain from such acts.

Head of the exile Tibetan administration, Dr. Lobsang Sangay said the self-immolations are acts of resistance by Tibetans.

"The ongoing and unprecedented self-immolations by an increasing number of Tibetans in Tibet are the ultimate acts of civil disobedience against China’s failed rule in Tibet," said Mr. Sangay in a press release.

The CTA has called on the international community to engage with China to stop the deteriorating situation in Tibet. The administration also called on UNHCR to send Ms. Navi Pillay to investigate the causes of the self-immolatiions and to discuss the situation iside Tibet.
