Central Tibetan Administration’s Public Service Commission today started a 5-month preparatory training for Tibetans interested in working for the Tibetan exile government. 40 candidates with undergraduate and post-graduate degrees were selected out of 240 applicants to undergo special recruitment training.

Jamphel Choesang, head of the commission said the initiative was started to recruit committed bright Tibetans interested in becoming public administrators.

The training will be held at the College for Higher Tibetan Studies at Sarah, near Dharamsala. Geshe Jamphel Drakpa, principal of the institute said that the students should make utmost use of available resources and facilities during the program. The preparatory program at Sarah entails training in various areas including administrative and management skills, advanced English language proficiency, Tibetan history and language, planning and project management, and basic computing skills.

During the inaugural address, Yuthok Karma Gelek, elected secretary to the Tibetan cabinet spoke on the importance of commitment for service to the aspiring young civil servants. “Merely having education and training is not enough; it is important to have an all-round development with a quest to serve the public,” said Mr. Gelek.

The Public Service Commission was set up in February 1992 to recruit, train and appoint civil servants of the Tibetan administration in exile.
