Geshe Tenzin Dhargye, director at Tibet Center in Hettenburg in Austria, explains the three baskets of Buddha’s teachings. The Vinaya Pitaka or discipline basket, is the collection of texts concerning the rules of conduct governing the daily affairs within the monk and nun community during the Buddha’s time. Sutra Pitaka or discourse basket consists chiefly of the instruction on higher training in meditative concentratio. The third is on the Abhidharmma Patika or Philosophy basket on higher training of wisdom.
