China’s Attempt to Destroy Tibet Mural in Corvallis

When a Tibet-depicted mural was displayed on a house in small Corvallis city, it got attention from Beijing. Mayor Julie Manning tells Tibetan in Review program that Chinese consulate general in San Francisco wrote her a letter, asking her to take down the mural. When she replied, she couldn’t do such a thing, the Chinese officials arrived in her city. “We always welcome visitors,” said Congressman Peter Defazio who represents the district of the city. “But under these circumstances, we have some concerns.” Mayor Manning told the Chinese officials that even if she had the authority to take the action, she wouldn’t do it.
