The first ever Tibetan Buddhist Geshema dialectic debate was held from May 20, 2013 to June 3, 2013 at Jamyang Choeling Nunnery in Dharamsala. Over 27 Buddhist nuns from various nunneries around India and Nepal participated in the debate. The nuns are required to undergo three different examinations for three consecutive years to be awarded the Geshema degree. Geshema degree is equivalent to a doctorate degree in Buddhism.  Sources:  Interview with Namda Khentrul, an examiner and one of the candidates.
