" Human Immunodeficiency Virus suffers no altitude sickness,” says Tibetan AIDS prevention advocate Thubten Phuntsok, also a senior professor at Tibetology at Central Nationalities University in Beijing. Talking to Jampa’s Conversation program in Kham TV, the Tibetan professor stated that AIDS patients in Tibet have higher chances of fatalities due to the high altitude. Born in Kham Degre, Thupten Phuntsok is a physician and a leading scholar of Tibetan history. He founded the first non-governmental organized focused on AIDs prevention in Tibetan region in China. As a founder and president of Tibetan Association of Prevention of AIDs, he has led many initiatives to protect spread of AIDs among Tibetans.
