Players Organize Basketball Match to Promote Women's Health


ཐད་ཀར་ཕབ་ལེན་གྱི་དྲ་འབྲེལ།

Tibetan Women’s Basketball Tournament was played in Dharamsala, North India to spread awareness about fight against sexual violence in the society. The match organized by the players took place from May 25 till June 2, 2014, and was participated by eight different teams.

Tenzin Tseyang, a player and one of the organizer said that the match aims to promote women's health, while spreading awareness on the sexual violence in Tibetan society.

Within the last year, the exile Tibetan community have witnessed three cases of child abuse, all of which are still pending in court.

Mr. Penpa Tsering, Speaker of Tibetan Parliament in Exile applauded the organizers for such awareness campaigns.

Ms. Gyari Dolma, the minister of Home recalling the 'unfortunate' incidents that took place lately said, all concerned people should take responsibility in eliminating sexual violence in our society.

The final match was between Regional Tibetan Women's Association and Tibetan Women’s Football team, where RTWA team beat the former by one goal to become the winner of the basketball match.

The winning team received a cup and 5000 Indian Rupees in cash.
