A 31-year-old Tibetan woman set herself on fire last Wednesday in the Dzoege region of Ngaba in eastern Tibet. Kunchok Wangmo, a mother of a 8-year-old, died after her self-immolation.
According to VOA sources, Chinese authorities cremated Kunchok's body without informing her family. Kunchok Wangmo’s husband Dolma Kyab has been arrested for his refusal to cite internal family feuds as the reason for her self-immolation.
Kunchok Wangmo is the 107th Tibetan to self-immolate demanding freedom and the return of Tibetan spiritual leader the Dalai Lama from exile.
Last Saturday, a monk at the Kirti Monastery set himself on fire. The two protest coincides with the Chinese leadership transition. Chinese authorities have tightened controls and communications in Tibetan regions where self-immolations have occurred.
